The picture of Erica and Grady together is in front of one of the mineral deposits leaving a geyser area, even though it looks like a glacier. It was coming down the walkway from this area where we encountered another coyote. A lady in front of us spotted it before we did and pointed it out to us. The coyote walked within ten feet from us. We were spread out a little at the time and Liam was bringing up the rear by about fifteen feet. The coyote gave Liam, zipped up in his blue jacket, a good hard look. I quickly ran back to him in case the coyote confused Liam for a giant blueberry. Jenna was closer, but I don't even think a grizzly bear would mess with Jenna.
The elk is one of the many that inhabit the small town in the northeast corner of the park. The elk are everywhere, including right next to the path to the bathrooms. The rangers had to stay close to keep the people from getting too close to the elk. This particular elk had fought another, smaller elk, several days before and killed it. We took the picture from the safety of the car.
The blurry picture is most likely a buffalo, but we could never quite make it out. We were in a very wide valley that is known for seeing grizzlies. The animal walked around more than the buffalo we had seen, so I walked to the edge of the river in the middle of the valley to take a closer look. I wasn't about the fjord the river. It wasn't clear in the camera, but it looks more like a buffalo in the picture.
We ended the day by seeing some wolves further down in the same valley. Some people had set up spotting scopes on them and let us take a look. Then, of course, we spent some time in the pool again.
