On day four we drove back to the canyon rim and drove west along the South Rim. We passed some Indian reservations as we curved our way around to the northern side of the canyon. The scenery is different, but just as spectacular to the north of the canyon. There are cliffs and other natural landmarks. We eventually crossed into Utah and went through some mountains. Near the top of one of the ridges, we stopped for gas. The bottom edge of the front that had caused us to alter course earlier was passing us. Because of the high elevation, the precipitation came in the form of snow. The kids were so excited to see the snow that they danced in the gas station lot (top picture). The locals were nice but didn't seem to understand what the big deal was.
